J udaism, Ha-Mashiach is a human leader. Often called Melekh Ha-Mashiach (King Messiah), he must be a direct descendant of King David and King Solomon through a continuous paternal line.
T here is a concept of Yerushalayim shel Ma’ala (the Heavenly Jerusalem) and Yerushalayim shel Mata (the Earthly Jerusalem). It is believed that in Olam Ha-Ba (the World to Come), these two cities will merge into one. The earthly city will become a perfect reflection of divine perfection, blurring the boundary between the spiritual and the material. The Psalms (Tehillim 122:3) state: "Jerusalem is built as a city that is bound firmly together" (or "a city that is compact together"). In the Talmudic tradition, this is interpreted as the city that "makes all Jews friends" (she-osah kol Yisrael chaverim).
